CLUB WOTEVER LONDON HISTORY
by Ingo

Club Wotever started in Aug 2003 when three friends, Ingo, Sam and Col got together and found a venue that would suit their dream of a gender bending club, were all people could be welcomed, as long as they were nice & friendly.

First Venue: Bar-B-Lo, 88 Marchmont street, Russell Square.
Aug 2003-Jan 2004
Ingo found this venue because at teh time she was hardworking at the bookstore Gay's The Word at no 78 Marchmont st...the new owners to Bar-B-Lo was up for letting us start at their small cosy winebar. With steep steps down from the street, it became packed if there was more than 80 people there....
Performers we saw here; Josephines debut, Dyke Marilyn, Ken LasVegas, Trevor For Ever, Del LaGrace Vulcano, Louie, The Kitchenettes etc etc

DJs who played; Fuzz, Richard, Tabs and more
Sadly the owners went bakrupt in Jan 2004 and we found our self homeless with only two weeks to find a new place....
Luckily drag Queen Kitty Litter talked to Ingo in the bookstore and recommended us to try out the family pub in the city area.

Second Venue: The Horseshoe, Clarkenwell
Feb 2004-July 2004
We moved in to this cosy, music pub in February and started off with a High School Prom Night. It's two floors made it easy to relax upstairs and dance downstairs...the dj's set up directly on a table on the dance floor which made the tunes jump if you did....We also had the lovely Dressing Up lady Jane helping out to make sure we all looked fab on the night.
Here we saw many fab performers; Truly Kaputt, Sexy Devil, Trevor For Ever, GendaLicious, Diane Torres, Lion Kings, Lenna and Kill Pussy.

DJs: SexyRubberSole, Tabs, Cuust, Max Sparkle & Vicky Lester
Our big night was also our last one (even if we didn't know at the time) Pride Saturday in July 2004. We raised a big sum of money for breast cancer and we had a bbq in the pub garden with vego sausages and plenty of fairy cakes....
The owners decided that we was risking their business by being a regular event there (they were only a mon-friday pub) and we had to move.... we took a break in August and went to Brighton Pride tp Party... During this period Col decided to leave Wotever to continue his creativity and yoga. Thomas came in as part of the crew.

Third Venue: Essence Bar, 2-5 Carthusian street, Barbican
Sep 2004-Oct 2006
We got an invite from dyke owned/run Essence Bar in August to move there. Which we did happily, the first night we did a Jack Off themed night with plenty of Pirates etc. This two floor Wine Bar was a bit more classy (and pricey) than ale pub Horseshoe, but here we had more space and a more secure place to be, with staff that wanted us and liked what we stood for. Opening hours was longer as well, we started to run til 2am second saturday of the month.
Performers we saw here; Jack Sparrow, The Painted Lady, Indigo Blue, Kill Pussy, Dyke Marilyn, Josephine, The Prarie Bois, Ken Las Vegas, Anat Ben-David, Lesley Woods, Dahlia and Passive Aggression and more

DJs: Residential DJs Max Sparkle & Vicky Lester, plus guest DJs Yr Mum Ya Dad, Sadie Lee, Lakuti, Josephine, Scratch (DJ ROCKIT) and more
Towards the end of our stay there the venue started having trouble with neighbour and plenty of maintenance problems and also we felt that it was time to move... so we did. But thank you a lot to Doris and staff for all those years! During the summer of 2006 Sam decided to leave Wotever to continue with his own life and transitioning. We have been lucky to have Issy and Gee working for a while at the door and lately it is Tommy and Emily who make sure that you are all greeted with the respect and friendlines you deserve.

Forth Venue: The Driver, 2 Wharfdale Rd, King's Cross
Dec 2006- Feb 2007

This is our new 'home' it is also a pub, with pub prices and very relaxed athmosphere... We are here fully wheelchair accessible and can stay open til 4am in the morning..... come and see us!! It is very easy to get here cause we are in the corner of Wharfdale/Caledonian Rd King's Cross. Ingo is still working hard to make it happen and nowadays Josephine is our spokesperson, Tommy & Emily take care of the door and Thomas, Al and many more help out by being there and giving a helping hand with all kinds of things....

Fifth venue: Masters Club, 12 Denman street, Piccadilly, Soho, W1
March 2007 -

We move to Soho...

Club Wotever is changing....but so are you ;-)

Wot Wotever means to me

By Jo 01-03-07

On my return from nearly two years in the United States I told my housemate/best friend that I wanted a different scene from the one in Soho with people that I could identify with as a queer dyke/boi.  She introduced me to a regular who went to the poly group, which I also attended and who told me about Bar Wotever.

The first time I went there I felt very welcome, it felt like somewhere I was meant to be.  Gradually over the weeks I began to meet some wonderful people there, and especially people that identified with all the questions I had about my identity.

I found out that Tuesday’s were for open performances and open DJ decks.  Having done some DJ work in the past and having a dad as a DJ for over 30 years, I have a passion for this.  I asked Ingo (the organiser)  who said I could have an hour slot between 8.30 pm and 9.30pm one evening.  I enjoyed it and got positive feedback.  I have since then DJ’d at Bar Wotever on numerous occasions and have moved to the later shift!!!!  It’s an amazing feeling to see everyone dancing to your favourite tunes!

In December 2006, I was asked by Ingo to DJ at Club Wotever, which was wonderful and I have since done the February Club Wotever.  Thanks to Ingo for giving me the opportunity and encouragement in something I find so enjoyable.  I have since been asked to DJ at a wedding for some regulars of Bar Wotever!!

I was asked to be part of a fashion show at the end of 2006 at Bar Wotever, to make people aware of Klub Fukk and a fundraiser for the Spanner Trust.  For the first time I had my breast bound (yes there is photographic evidence!) and went topless on stage in front of a crowd of about 100!!!!!

Bar Wotever has become a regular event for me.  If you do not know where I am, pop into the Bar and I will be of the many regulars that keep on returning week after week.
